THAILAND' S MAGICHANDS THE SPIRIT OF JEWELRY MAKING
Gems and jewelry rank at No.3 of Thailand's most exported industries, creating over a million jobs and gener ating more than USD 13,000 million. As a high-pot ential industry , the government has worked towards making Thailand a gems and jewelry hub and a major jewelry manufacturer, from upstream to downstream.
In order to establish Thailand as the world's gems and jewelry hub. the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, together with partners from governmental agencies to private sectors, have initiated a brand new global campaign for Thailand gems and jewelry industry entitled "THAILAND'S MAGIC HANDS : The Spirit of Jewelry Making"
The campaignaimed at gaining international recognition for the Thai gems and jewelry industry, by presenting new images and strengths of Thailand's gems and jewelry industry at the international level. Not only being a trading hub for international gems and jewelry traders,but Thailand also has highly skilled artisans capable of creating high-end,exquisite jewelry pieces. These skills are rooted in the country's history of art and crafts, which ha ve been inherit ed for generations.
Global jewelry brands have longre cognised the skills of Thai artisans and some have made Thailand their manufacturing base for decades. Knowledge of making high-end jewelry pieces from the West has
successfully transferred to Thailand, when combined with the ability of making intricate creations of Thai craftspeople, it gives the country a comparative advantage like no other.
In the past, Thailand was a source of materials and manufacturing base. At present, Thailand has become one of the leading countries of value creation for the global gems and jewelry industry . Thailand boasts a number of jewelry brands that are internationally recognised, highly skilled artisans, as well as designers.Thanks to these strengths, Thailand will be able to become one of the world's gems and jewelry hubs.
